Before I go away for a few days...

So I am leaving for a couple days. In a few hours I'll be heading south to drop my beautiful Babies off at my Mom's house. And then Wednesday I will be driving 4 hours north to spend a couple days with my wonderful husband, so I won't be able to work on my quilt. I'll leave you with some pics of some past projects that have led me to my journey to learn to quilt...like for real. LOL

First is a small rag quilt type thing I made for my Daughter. The top was beautiful, then I uglified it quilting it, and binding it. So I'll just show the pretty top!

Next up is a Blanket I made for my Son, he loves Thomas. Once Again, I did a horrible job with binding it, and my squares did NOT line up at all! Good thing he doesn't care, and you can't really see it!

I made this one for a friends Baby.

And Last, is a quilt block I made for a group quilt project.

Baby Quilt...gone big...

Wanna see what I'm working on? It's supposed to be a baby quilt for a friend, seems I've made it a little larger than I should have though!
So do you ever get super motivated and want to finish something TONIGHT? And you get halfway through and realize...this is NEVER going to happen tonight? Yeah, that is where I ended up tonight. Because I'm a newbie-lazy quilter, I ordered some charm packs to make this quilt....also because I am a little challenged when it comes to matching fabrics!! They came in the mail today and I got the idea in my head that I would piece the entire top, and back, and free motion quilt it all together (mind you I've never FMQ'd before) and I would bind it tomorrow while I am at my mothers.
HAAAHHHAAAAAHHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah right. What a JOKE!
I did manage to get my top finished...and that is as far as I'm going to get tonight. I also realized that because the quilt ended up larger than expected, I now have to go buy MORE fabric to put the back on. Wooooppps!!! My husband had the wonderful suggestion that I just simply CUT the quilt back to fit the backing!!! GASP! Not in this lifetime! As much time as it took to make that, there is NO WAY I'll be cutting it back. Thank you though, my Dear Sweet Husband for the suggestion. Silly, silly, Man. Would you like to see a pic of that silly silly man? Sure, here he is! Gosh I love him!

Now, because I'm blogging about my journey, and because I know that I love a lot of pics, I will share my progress pics!

So here is the piecing together the rows.

All pieced and stacked in order ready for extra threads to be trimmed, and to be pressed.

Ironing the rows. Please ignore the yucky ironing board cover...I guess I should make myself a pretty one!

Sewing together the rows.

Phew! I got all my rows together!

Annnddd the completed top!

On top of my queen sized bed...you can see how big it ended up.

Anyone want to give me any ideas on how to incorporate this train fabric into the backing of the quilt? It is very important and has to go somehow!

Thanks for Looking, and now I'm off to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First Quilt Project. Table Runner

I completed my first quilt project! I made a table runner from this blog http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2010/08/table-runner-tutorial.html
I knew it would be a perfect first project for me to practice. I even did my binding by hand! I normally give up at that point and just do it all ugly on the machine! Now, after washing it up, its a little wonky, and not perfect by any means, but I love it and I am so proud of myself!
After washing. Gotta love real life and my Son's trains!

My first Quilt

I've decided to learn to quilt!!! I am going to record my progress here on this new blog! I'm soooo excited to get started but I have a few things I need to work out first. I need to pick up a few more fabrics, because unlike a lot of my online buddies, I don't have an overabundance!
I can't wait to get started and share my journey!
